Often people don’t realize they are not in good health until they have a major health crisis i.e. heart attack, stroke, diabetes, etc. For me it was fibromyalgia. There are no specific treatments for people with fibromyalgia type symptoms. I have gone through a process of trial and error which includes dietary changes, exercise, nutritional supplements, schedule changes, stress management, massage therapy, chiropractic, yoga, etc, and much research. I had days when I felt like I had been run over by a Mack truck. Then, at age 40, I decided I was tired of hurting and wanted to feel alive and well. That was when I realized that I am the one in control of my life and wellness. Thus began my journey. I still have days when I feel lousy, but I have more good days than bad and I’m much happier. Wellness includes more than just diet or exercise but is a total integration of body, mind, and spirit that is not a quick fix but continues for a lifetime.
Many times it’s hard to know where to start. Often we begin by trying to change so much we get overwhelmed and give up. We try this diet one day and a different diet next month. Habits can be difficult to change….but that’s what wellness is about. Creating habits we can stick with for life….a lifestyle that helps us become healthy…. to feel good. Creating habits…one step…at a…time. It is important to set personal goals that are realistic and that will fit with your daily routine. Or, maybe… creating a daily routine that better meets your goal of wellness. This is welltrition.
